Kamochah B’nos Program

  • We are dedicated to uplifting and empowering Black Orthodox Jewish girls through our pioneering bimonthly leadership program. This program is designed to be a nurturing environment where the rich traditions of Torah learning are intertwined with dynamic leadership development. Our goal is to bolster the bitachon (trust in G-d and self) of each participant, preparing them for a fulfilling life as Jewish women and fostering a profound sense of sisterhood within this vibrant segment of the Orthodox Jewish community.

  • While Kamochah values the broader Jewish world that our children live in, this particular program is intended for young Black Jewish girls. We do not intend to turn anyone away who falls in that category, regardless of the level of observance in the home, however, Kamochah is a Torah observant organization and this is the atmosphere one should expect throughout our program.

  • Curriculum Sessions will offer enriching peer engagement and support, creating a space where girls can connect, grow, and inspire one another. Each session will focus on a particular character trait as a central theme, framed around a significant event related to that particular month. Integral to our mission, the program will feature inspiring Black Orthodox women as role models and educators, who will guide and mentor our participants.

Additionally, our resources are thoughtfully curated to ensure that Black Orthodox Jewish girls see their images and concerns reflected and centered, reinforcing their invaluable place in our community and beyond.

    See the program calendar below.

  • As the program concludes, our young participants will step forward enriched with new friendships, skills, and a deepened sense of community. These girls, having shared monthly gatherings full of learning, personal growth, and joy, are not just saying farewell at the end of the year. Instead, they are embarking on a lifelong journey of mutual support and mentorship.

To celebrate this milestone, we propose an end-of-year Shabbaton, a meaningful Shabbos where all the girls and many of the teachers can reunite. This Shabbaton will be a time for reflection, celebration, and looking ahead. It will reinforce the bonds formed over the year and provide a spiritual and communal space to cherish their shared experiences.

Our commitment to these bright young minds does not end with the program. Through continued active engagement, a robust network, periodic check-ins, and ongoing programming, we aim to foster life-long friendships. This network will not only support each girl individually but also empower them to become mentors for future participants. In this way, each cohort will contribute to building a self-sustaining community of support, guidance, and inspiration, ensuring that the impact of our program extends far beyond its duration.

Black Orthodox Jewish women and girls often navigate unique challenges within various facets of their lives, be it social, religious, or educational. Recognizing the importance of embracing both their racial and Jewish identities fully, our mission at Kamochah is to foster an environment where these identities can flourish together. We understand that the lack of suitable support in Jewish communal life can have adverse effects on self-esteem and identity perception.

Therefore, we are committed to developing a robust model within the larger Orthodox community that focuses on enriching Torah learning, enhancing resource development, and nurturing the growth of Jewish identity, all while prioritizing and celebrating the unique perspectives, identities, and narratives of Black Orthodox Jewish women and girls.

Kamochah’s Bnos project is a girl’s empowerment program that is meant to aid in the development of young Black Orthodox Jewish girls by discussing various character traits through the lens of classic Rabbinic Jewish texts and other philosophical works. It is led by Black Orthodox Jewish Women educators thereby utilizing our platform to elevate them and give these young women a chance to mentor the next generation.
